STRATEGIC PLANNING CLIENT SUCCESS

STRATEGY RULES: ACCELERATES MARKET ENTRY AND WINS AWARD

THE CHALLENGE

The University of Michigan-Dearborn College of Education, Health and Human Services launched the Center for Disparity Solutions and Equity (CDSE) to partner with university, community stakeholders and industry, and to provide research, evidence-based solutions for policy, capacity-building, best practices, programs and evaluation.

Following the successful launch and engagement with several influential community and industry partners, CDSE needed to create a long-term agenda and to achieve consensus among its more than two dozen internal and external stakeholders, including UMD faculty, administrators, professional staff and community leaders. Additionally, CDSE required a go-to-market strategy to attract new partners and project opportunities, and to implement positioning and branding strategies to translate its offerings from academic speech into compelling marketing communications.

Q

HOW WE HELPED

RENEE WALKER & ASSOCIATES developed a customized strategic planning process that employed a variety of research and facilitation methodologies, including strategic visioning and implementation, action planning, consensus and team building, and focused dialogue to quickly capture the group’s best thinking. RW&A facilitated a strategic planning session—with more than 20 Ph.D.’s and administrators, staff and community leaders—and developed a web-based survey instrument to expedite the meaningful exchange of ideas. RW&A also architected the CDSE’s positioning and branding and created print and digital marketing assets.

THE RESULTS

RW&A’s strategic planning process, go-to-market, positioning and branding strategies and marketing collateral helped CDSE expand marketplace awareness, secure new partners and project opportunities, and earn the Greater Detroit Area Health Council’s 2016 Breakthrough Award.
